USPOULTRY Sponsors New Training Program for Poultry Wastewater Operators |

The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association will sponsor a Poultry Wastewater Operators
Training Program June 17-18 at the Hampton Inn in Rogers, Ark. This new training
program is geared toward operators and supervisors involved in poultry wastewater
treatment for two years or less. The course introduces students to the regulatory
structure governing poultry plant effluents; provides a primer in math, chemistry,
and microbiology; and covers the predominant equipment and systems used to properly
treat poultry effluent prior to discharge.
The Poultry Wastewater Operators Training Program combines a comprehensive 200-page
Operator’s Manual with 14 hours of classroom instruction and active student
participation to teach students the fundamentals of poultry wastewater treatment.
John Starkey, P.E., USPOULTRY’s vice president of environmental programs,
conducts the course. The class size is limited to 20 people. Additional course
locations will be announced based on industry input.
“Our Environmental Impact Committee recognized the need for an industry-specific
training program for wastewater operators,” said USPOULTRY President Don
Dalton. “Committee members helped us develop the course by reviewing and
commenting on the Operator’s Manual. A well-trained operator can help protect
a company’s most important asset: its good name.”
USPOULTRY intends to offer continuing education units for the course after accreditation
by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training.
The enrollment fee is $195 per person for USPOULTRY member companies and $390
per person for nonmember companies. The fee covers lunch on both days.
