Selection of sows

Hello to all.
Quisiera that somebody indicates me how characteristic it should gather a sow to be used as foot of breeding, and which are the cares that should be had during the childbirth.

Le informs that the answer to its question is a complex point.
En first place because they should be taken into account many such excellent aspects as: production type, size of this, condition of the upbringing, technologies to use, etc.
Yo would recommend him that it was informed of characteristic of some races, and then after own conclusions, to see which it is the female type that is adjusted to its production.

Indistinctly of the race or genética:
1. - to Present at least 7 couples of functional teats.
2. - right mammary Lines so that to the moment to go to bed of any side it exposes both lines to the pigs.
3. - firm Assurances for not presenting possible giving up problems later on.
4. - big and developed Vulva that it allows to infer a system reproduction I mature.
5. - to Be a mother's offspring with childbirths of at least 9-10 born pigs vivos/parto.
6. - Preferably a longer female and with right loin that plump and arched loin.
7. - it should arrive to your facility at least with 55 Kg/pv to assure a good acclimatization.

The best thing is to acquire sows of high genetic quality, if its farm is devoted to the intensive production.
En this case, and in function of the size of the farm, grandmothers can be acquired to be made their sows, what is always more interesting from the sanitary and economic point of view.

Mr. José Rangel has described you very wisely what is needed as foot of breeding. It would also increase him to have 210 days of age or 135 kg at least to it mounts it, not to be a pig with marked hams, since the dorsal fat would be little causing subsequent problems to the childbirth for bad nursing. Also who recommends you autorreemplazos, I believe that it is missed, since if a farm cannot pay its substitution with the sale of waste of 280 kg ($9 / kg = $2520, the foot of breeding costs $800 more), that means that you use the money to complete the expenses of the farm and it doesn't stop purchase of substitutions, being your inefficient farm.

Hello.
Sr Heriberto, the Agricultural José's information Rangel is good. He/she would add him the following thing:
1. - childbirths of 12 or more alive breedings.
2. - weaned of 10 or more breedings.
3. - I weigh to the weaning, bigger than 8 kgs.
As him he/she says, this is for all the races.

Dear gentlemen:
If a porcicultor wants to select its substitution sows, he/she has to begin having in its farm for the less 2 pure races. The effect taken place by the heterosis and the hybrid vigor is the biggest advantage in a female reproductora f1 (Landrace x Yorkshire).
After this several basic characteristics should be selected:
1. - growth or daily gain of weight from the 25 kg up to 90 kg.
2. - strength and correct formation of paws and thighs.
3. - twelve functional nipples (as minimum) and well spaced.
4. - docility and good locomotion.
5. - descending of numerous litters
For my experience, the appetite and the docility they are the best qualities of excellent reproductoras.
