Been caught up in this Australian fiasco, let it be pointed out that in all reality, only 20% of the horse population in Australia is of the throughbred persuasion with the remaining 80% being regarded as being in the pleasure horse catergory. It is within the 20% (racing industry) that the lions share of these supposedly available funds being bandied about by both federal and state governments is going.
The ordinary horseowner is a well forgotten entity in this bureaucratic driven (therefore almost totally usless) fix of the current outbreak, as the government continually pumps money into the racing industry (the sport of kings and multi-millionaires) as it is their milk cow in real terms of revenue raked off on a continuing weekly basis. Put quite simply, it is the racing industry, and the racing industry alone that is gaining anything from this bureaucratic nonsense and it really appears that the day of the ordinary horseowner whether it be for companionship, showing or other related event, is fast coming to an end with new restricitons, and ridiculous barriers being placed in front of everyone almost on a daily changing basis as the authorities continue with a chest beating and jaw banging exercise of how they have it all under control whilst at the same time running about aimlessly and workshopping what they can do to inconvenience the average horseowner even further.
If anyone has a doubt, simply ring the DPI & F, tell them you have a rachorse that you would like to move for any reason whatever and be immediately granted a permit. Then ring them and tell them you have a family pet that needs to move as the property is sold or similar, and get a negative response immediately on a permit.
