The use of NDF levels to formulate ruminant rations is an important step towards eliminating problems related to acidosis. For ruminants the grain/concetrate level that exceeds 50 % is a sure bet for acidosis to occur in herds. However, I tend to agree with the assertion that there should be an appropriate adjustment period towards consumption of large amounts of cereals if a farmer is avoid problems of acidosis occouring. For Alfalfa, making it into hay greatly minimises incidences of bloat and where it must be fed fresh, it is recommended that grass hay is fed before using it.
