LEVET COMPLEX is a synergistic association of albendazole and chlosantel:
Albendazole is an endo-antiparasitic of the bencimidazoles group, that blocks parasitic glucose uptake by interrupting microtubular function. The action spectrum in bovines ranges from intestinal nematodes such as Ostertagia ostertagi, Thichostrongylus axei, T. colubriformis, Cooperia ancophora, Oesophagosmum radiatum, Haemonchus contortus and Nematoridus helvetianus; to pulmonary nematodes such as Dictyocaulus viviparous; cestodes such as Monezia expansa and trematodes such as Fasciola hepatica.
Chlosantel is an organic endo-ecto-antiparasitic that inhibits the oxidative mitochondrial phosphorilations affecting both the adult and young forms of parasites. This inhibition causes a decrease in the synthesis of ATP, thus decreasing the metabolic activity. It is absorbed obtaining plasma concentrations of 55 μg/ml 24 hours after administration at doses of 10 mg/k.l.w. The half life of chlosantel is 15 days. The long persistence of chlosantel in the organism is due to its high capacity to fix to plasma proteins which is responsible for its long-term effect to prevent infestations and reinfestations.
INDICATIONS AND SPECIES
It is intended for the treatment of:
- Gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodosis, produced by parasites sensitive to albendazole, affecting both the adult parasites and the larvae.
- Teniosis produced by Monesia spp.
- Distomatosis. It is not recommended for the treatment of acute fascilosis caused by immature forms.
As a guide for its use in bovine fed on pasture, follow the indications below:
- Calves: treat them after one and a half month of grazing, thereafter the treatment should be repeated every one and a half month.
- Adult bovine: treat in autumn, before barning. Diarrhoeas associated with Ostertagia spp, can appear in winter in which case the animal should be treated twice, with 4 nights between treatments. Repeat the treatment in spring and at the end of summer.
