How to lower costs in the breeding of pigs

Señores:
El following mail is to request them information on the breeding of pigs.
Yo is a small manager, and I would like to intrude in the world of the Pig Industry.
Tengo terrestrial, abundant water and space to sow, what I lack is the experience, and it is for it that I appeal you.
Quiero to begin the company with 100 pigs for the one puts on weight.
He seen that the biggest expense is required by the feeding (I feed for sacks). It is for it that I want another alternative in order to reduce costs.
Leí in an article that the yucca and the sweet potato are two good alternatives for the feeding of the pigs, for what my questions are the siguientes:
. - it can feed a pig before with the tubers mencionados?
. - which the quantity is in kg/peso required for the animal?
. - it is more profitable than the fabrica?
. - which the price average of the pig kg is in foot of the mercado?

Ricardo:
Los tubers is very good food for the pigs of it puts on weight. Particularly I use potato cooked for pigs of it puts on weight, and I administer 450 to 550 gr of a nucleus commercial proteico. This way, the feeding decreases until 40% regarding pigs put on weight just by concentrated commercial.
En place of the nucleus proteico, it can also use concentrated commercial, and any tuber that uses, should go cooked.

Alimentación of I Take care: it consists on using a combination of products and agricultural sub-products as yucca, banana tree, tiquisque, ayote, serum of milk, cane of sugar or other whose quantity will also depend of the stage of growth of the pig.

Etapa of growth - Duration days - I Weigh of the pig Kg - I Feed with concentrated Kg/día - I Feed of I take care of Kg/día

Inicio: 30 - it weans at 30 -1.2 - Anything or very little

Desarrollo: 30 - 30 at 60 - 1.0 - 4.5

Dear Amigos:
Hace many years I am involved in the Swinish Production and I have seen many feeding forms. Due to the current scenarios of the Pig in the world with regard to the opening of markets, the sale prices every time they are more and more first floor, and we are said that it is necessary to be productive in an efficient way to be able to compete. Depending on the business type, of the rotation of their capital, of their flow and of the genetics type that one has, in that same way it will be necessary to evaluate the feeding types. The foods that come from their crops, usually lower the cost, but they give a lot of work and they remove time and on the other hand, it delays the product in arriving to the correct weight. The necessities of the pig are more and more demanding and today it is needed to arrive to the correct weight, in a meager way and with the smallest possible cost. Any thing that is made to lower costs, will have to be in the feeding, because she represents 70% of the production cost (I refer to pigs commercially speaking), and I believe that the sum of several things can at the end to reduce costs. For example, how to buy the matters cousins? To what opportunity cost is it bought? How other scientific alternatives of feeding have been discussed with the nutricionistas? In short, I cannot assure what to make to lower costs, but we are making the possible thing in Panama and in our group to look for alternative. At the moment, I recommend him to see the different possibilities. If he/she has sure market, with what frequency, to what it distances their operation of the center of the marketing is, if it has a good manpower, etc, etc.

Friends: pay attention to Oscar Osorio. The reduction of the production costs is given if we diminish the conversion and we increase the gain. The foods have become specialized because the market requires every day more very meager pigs with excellent yields, and we only have left to reduce costs. For example: we need 252 kg so that the pig wins from 5.2 to 103 kg, that is to say 97.8 kg total livestocks, that is to say a conversion of 2.57. And it is that the conversion you increases in a 0.3, then you would need to reduce at 1.4 the kg food average, so that at least you spend the same thing in food. But, and the use of more corrals, bigger space, etc, that who pays it? I hope it serves you.

It is certain that the tubers, and all that we can obtain at low cost or free (serum of milk, banana, etc.) he/she helps to lower the costs. But it is something that one makes in family farms. Carlos: you are right in what you say, the problem is that if you use improved animals, production, sanitarily good, you cannot give yourself the luxury of feeding them with tubers and other things, since the requirements of them are enough high.

Kleiner: it is good what you comment, the serum of milk is good. Many times it is thrown because in some places they don't use it. It is very good that has high lisina levels, but how more: if you add to a diet X lisina levels, by itself you won't obtain appropriate results. The necessity of other elements exists to be able to use the lisina. I insist, let us remove our production cost, how much we find difficult the pig to the childbirth, to the weaning, probably if we have 9 born, each one costs 166.66, and if we have 11, each one costs 136.36. The same thing happens to those weaned. If we wean 7, we find difficult 230/cerdo, if we wean 10, we find difficult 161. That is the best result in costs, contrary to the feeding costs that you no longer use 230 kg to fatten a pig during 153 days, diminishing you already use 200, but in 165 days. You moved the age, you diminish the number of pigs taken place by space, and that also hill. Then we are in bad direction.

Dear friends: the cheapest, profitable and healthy form is the production of foods in the farm. The first thing that you/they have to carry out is a study on the matters available cousins and the price of the same ones. The yucca and the sweet potato are energy foods, and they need to mix them with foods proteicos, as the flours of blood, meat and fish + fat (I feed).

Greetings for all. I have a project that I don't still put into practice. I am thinking of raising the pigs in the savanna or in the field, and only to take care of them that don't steal them to me, and to pick up them when they are of 6 months for it only puts on weight, for a certain tienpo (of two to three months).

The product in mention is the BORE. What happens is that in any well-known part commercial cultivations that can provide the necessary quantity to make profitable this activity exist. Personally, I have used it besides that in the moment together with other people are devoted to their massive multiplication to achieve the objective. Commercial cultivations. Not you if you refer to the grass King Grass for use in pigs or bovine?

In the case of pigs I don't have experience. We begin in the years 90 at the 95 a system of shepherding of the sows gestantes with a denominated grass Swazzi, cringing, very small dehoja and with a protein of around 10. Several parcels of 1/2 hectare were had for 40 sows that shepherded freely and they were added their food based on their requirements. This was not made to lower costs of foods, but to lower construction costs. At the end there were a lot of problems with the repetitions, because they were frequent the abortions and for but surveillance the employees didn't notice.

To me in the particular thing like me a lot, because he/she gave a lot of freedom to the sow and he/she didn't deteriorate so much, but in the years 93 at 94 a swinish pest loosened in Costa Rica and we all begin to have bioseguridad and we eliminate the system for that of automated cages.

We have always wanted to make an investigation as regards use of grasses in the feeding of pigs of it puts on weight but don't read I have begun.

In the case of ruminant, the King Grass is excellent. We have used it as court grass with addition of urea, we have used it additionally with ensilaje and he/she has always given good results.
