Furazolidone (AOZ) ELISA Test Kit
MaxSignal™ Furazolidone (AOZ) ELISA Test Kit provides a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative analysis of furazolidone in shrimp, fish, meat (chicken, beef and pork), urine, serum, animal feed, milk, eggs and honey. Furazolidone belongs to the class of 5-nitrofuran antibiotics and has been widely and effectively used for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. in cattle, pigs and poultry. It was also used as a growth promoter in food-producing animals. However, both WHO and the European Union (EU) are unable to assign a maximum residue limit for furazolidone because of the potential carcinogenic effects of its residues on human health. As a consequence, the administration of furazolidone to food-producing animals has been prohibited.
Because of the rapid excretion of the nitrofurans and their instability in vitro and in vivo , it is impossible to monitor residues of the parent drug furazolidone directly. Alternatively, 3-amino-2-oxazolidinone (AOZ) moiety, the major metabolite of furazolidone, which is stable in tissue, even after long-term storage, is ed to monitor.
WHO and EU have set up 1.0 ppb as the Minimum Required Performance Limit (MRPL) for all of the nitrofurans. AOZ-residues can be determined by methods with extremely expensive preparatory procedures such as LC-UV, LC-MS, or LC-MS/MS. Alternatively, enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) can be used as a screening system, which is simple, rapid, sensitive and cost-effective compared with traditional methods.
