Brucella ovis causes an infectious disease in sheep characterized by epididymitis and infertility in rams and abortion in ewes. Vaccination programs are the only viable means for the control of B. ovis in countries with a high incidence. B. melitensis Rev.1, is considered the best vaccine for the prophylaxis of ovine brucellosis but has important disadvantages. Accordingly, research is under way to develop subcellular vaccines. Detergent-extracted recombinant Omp31 (rOmp31 extract) from B. melitensis was previously identified as a protective immunogen against B. ovis in mice.
Objective
To evaluate the immunogenicity and protective activity of rOmp31 extract against B. ovis in rams.

Results
Discussion and conclusion
Immunization with Omp31 from B. melitensis induced humoral and cellular mechanisms in sheep and reduced histopatological lesions in immunized rams. |

Brucella melitensis is the main cause of brucellosis in the Middle East.
If this research done on brucella melitensis in project with my institute,
we can sell this vaccine in the Middle East
and we solve the problem of brucella melitensis infection in cows and camels beside sheep.
