Commercial Contact | ELISA kit for the metabolites of NITROFURANs
Although they are included in the list of the forbidden substances and resctriction measures were adopted in the past years (2002) by the European Union, the metabolites of the nitrofurans can still be found in the ichthyic products coming from Asia.
The EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) frequently reports cases of contaminated ichthyic products identified by the competent controlling authorities: AOZ was recently found few times in Indian prawns, entering the United Kingdom (1.7 and 55 ppb) and already distributed on the German (63.2 ppb) and Belgian markets.
The nitrofurans (furazolidone, furaltadone, nitrofurantoin, nitrofurazone) are used for prophylaxis and treatment of bacterial and protozoic infection of breeding animals. They metabolize very rapidly, thus the molecules to be identified in the tissues are their metabolites, namely AOZ, AMOZ and others. These substances are forbidden and their minimum detection level was set to 1 ppb (European Comission, Decision 2003/181/CE, valid from 13th of March 2003).
Tecna has developed two new ELISA kits for the main metabolites of the nitrofurans: the I&rsquoscreen AOZ (cod. AB642) and the I&rsquoscreen AMOZ (cod. AB646). The kits are very sensitive: the AOZ and AMOZ can be detected down to the levels set by the EU (0.05 ppb in shellfish). The I&rsquoscreens of Tecna provide rapid analysis of food safety at low prices and the kits are easy to use (the reagents are ready-to-use).
