Helicoid flighting Helicoid Flighting is a continuous one-piece helix formed from bar or cut plate on special fabrication equipment into the desired diameter and pitch to fit conveyor screw pipes or shaftless screw applications.
Helicoid screws are cold-rolled from strip steels on precision rolling mills. The rolling operation compresses the outer flight edge, on periphery, to appromimately 50 of the inside root, and produces a smooth, work-hardened surface, with increased wear resistance.
To produce the completed screw section, the continous, one-piece helix is mounted on the conveyor pipe with heavy-duty end lugs and regularly spaced intermediated welds. For severe applications, the flighting may be continuously welded to the pipe on one ro both sides.
Pipe ends are bushed with close-tolerance internal collars, which are pressure-ed and plug-welded for maximum efficiency and service life. The collars are accurately reamed for the proper coupling shaft diameter. Coupling boltholes are jig-drilled for perfect alignment.
