This AGID test (“Coggins” test) utilizes purified antigen from equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV) to detect specific antibody formed after one to four weeks of infection. The basis of the test is the concurrent migration of antigen and antibody toward each other through an agar gel, resulting in the formation of precipitin lines. The pattern formed by these lines provides the basis for diagnosis.
