AflaCheck: Accurate, On-the-Spot Results on Aflatoxin Detection Test

AflaCheck: Accurate, On-the-Spot Results on Aflatoxin Detection Test Harvest is often the most stressful time for farmers, elevators and processors simply because of the volume of grain passing through their facilities. When mycotoxins are a concern, testing is needed prior to shipment or prior to usage for feed or food. VICAM recently introduced a product that is uniquely designed for rapid, low cost aflatoxin screening for any location that is interested in preventing the introduction of grain or peanuts with aflatoxin levels greater than 10 or 20ppb. AflaCheck™ offers aflatoxin screening in as little as three minutes, allowing plenty of time for managers to determine whether and how the product may best be utilized.

AflaCheck™ requires no technical expertise or special training and may be stored at room temperature throughout its shelf life of one year. Aflatoxin is a fungal metabolite known to appear in years when drought is prevalent during the growing season. Because of its known cancer-causing effects, aflatoxin is highly regulated worldwide and international trade is governed by specific maximum allowable levels by most importing countries. In addition to AflaCheck™, VICAM offers a complete line of quantitative fluorometric, HPLC and LC/MS/MS test kits for confirmation, with exact results provided in parts per billion.

VICAM´s AflaCheck™ is a qualitative one-step test kit for the detection of aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is a Group 1 carcinogen proven to cause cancer in humans. In the United States and abroad, aflatoxin levels in food and grain are subject to strict regulations. The European Union has established regulations for aflatoxin in groundnuts; tree nuts, such as almonds and pistachios; dried fruits; spices; and cereals. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has instituted maximum levels for aflatoxin in many commodities, including grains and groundnuts.

AflaCheck
Test Strips provide fast, accurate, on-the-spot results for the presence of aflatoxin at detection levels of either 10 ppb or 20 ppb. AflaCheck offers the option of two testing procedures to meet your specific needs.

AflaCheck is easy to use and provides reliable results in as little as 3 minutes, works in the field or in the lab, and doesn't require the use of expensive equipment. Simply dip the test strip into the sample and read results. Used alone, or in conjunction with VICAM quantitative immunoaffinity columns, AflaCheck is an ideal first step for detecting aflatoxin contamination.

BENEFITS

Fast – Results in as little as 3 minutes*
Simple – No special training or equipment required
Accurate – Detects the presence of aflatoxin at levels of 10 ppb or 20 ppb
Convenient – Can be performed anywhere with a variety of samples
Durable – Long shelf life, no refrigeration required
Economical – Inexpensive first step in your testing protocol
Versatile – Choice of two cut off procedures; 10 ppb and 20 ppb

USING AFLACHECK IS EASY AND RELIABLE:

1 EXTRACT sample with methanol and water.
2 DILUTE the extract with water.
3 INSERT test strip into diluted extract.
4 INTERPRET results visually.

– Appearance of both test line and control line means aflatoxin level is below the test cutoff.
– Appearance of the control line alone means aflatoxin level is above the test threshold.
– No visible control line means test is invalid.

* Excluding sample preparation and extraction
