The cimenol ring has phenolic character and it is contained in various percentages in extracts of aromatic plants. It antibacterial and antifungal effect has been traditionally used in the food industry in the preparation of preserved foods, especially vegetables canned.
The progressive ban on the use of chemical additives in the manufacture of balanced food and corrosive character for the facilities and irritating of organic acids (only currently permitted) makes them particularly interesting to study the effectiveness, per se or in combination with organic acids; of this cimenol molecule contained in many aromatic plants.
It has proposed the study of the effectiveness of cimenol and their associations to major bacterial contaminants (Staphylococcus, E.coli, Salmonella) and fungal (yeast, Fusarium, Penicillium, Aspergillus) of food in pure cultures and incorporated into food.
Alquermold Natural
In collaboration with Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona, we have launched a project to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal capacity of some plant extracts.
The purpose of this project is the development of new feed preservatives within the ALQUERMOLD NATURAL line, nowadays based on molecules whose common structure is the cimenol ring.
The cimenol ring, extracted from aromatic plants, can be found in a large number of preservative molecules. In the below photo the antifungal ability of cimenol ring against Fusarium tricinctum is shown, specifically a strain producing T-2 toxin, HT-2 toxin and diacetoxyscirpenol.

From left to right, Petri plates contain cimenol ring at 0, 100, 200 and 400 ppm. Its activity is clear from 100 ppm, inhibiting completely Fusarium growth at 400 ppm.
ALQUERMOLD NATURAL is available in powder premix, to be used mixed in feed, and in solution, to spray the grains on receipt in feed manufacturing plants.
