Re: Chicken-feeded pigs
Cumprimentos.

Re: Chicken-feeded pigs
The main disease risk from feeding chickens to swine is Salmonella infection - a very big risk unless the chicken waste is sterilised before feeding. More information sources on Salmonella, plus how to control it can be found here:

Re: Chicken-feeded pigs
Absolutely right, Paul; the main zoonotic pathogen would be Salmonella, but there are possible implications if the by-product is not sterilized, and if you sterilize the costs may exceed the possible economic benefits. Here in Canada we can not feed any animal by-product to swine, or any other species.

Re: Chicken-feeded pigs
Dead chicken can be fed to pigs but certain precaution to be considered like sterilising the meat; in case this is not possible please boil to about 100 F, this is to avoid E.coli, salmonellosis infection.
Don't feed dead birds which are more than four hours from death.
If the above precaution is followed it's absolutely safe to feed dead chicken to pigs.
