BIOMIZOL
DESCRIPTION
Colistin, metronidazole and spiramycin injectable suspension.
TECHNICAL PROPERTIES
Colistin belongs to the polymyxins group, used parenterally against infections caused by Aerobacter, E.coli, Haemophillus, Salmonella, Shigella, Peudomona, Pasteurella, vibrio, and paracolon bacteria. It is quickly absorbed after its injection, altering the permeability of the cellular wall. It is eliminated through the kidneys.
Metronidazole is a derivative of nitroimidazole and has antiprotozooary and antibacterial activity, specially for anaerobic flora.
Spiramycin is a macrolide whose intramuscular absorption is slow and it is also weakly fixed in plasma proteins. Its half life time in blood is 14 hours and it has a high fixation in tissues. In hepatic tissues it undergoes a biotransformation process and as it is eliminated through the milk it is a potent antimastitic antibiotic.
INDICATIONS AND SPECIES
It is intended for pigs in the treatment of dysentery and bacterial diarrhoeas caused by E.coli, Clostridium spp. and Trepomona spp. It can also be used in ruminants for the treatment of enterobacteric and clostridial diarrhoeas and for reproductive infections (Trichomona, Histomona) and mastitis.
