Answer to Andrés Sandoval...
I am not the most suitable to offer an answer with regard to the Line Daland, first because I didn't work in the test of this experiment, neither I am very sure of the races that have used to develop this line, and lastly you that there are many other people in this forum much more experts of the topic. But yes I can guide you with regard to the difference that is a line crossing and one of pure animals. I find that you want to know the origin of the line Daland to try to imitate her. Although I don't have a categorical answer for what you ask, yes I can tell you that the different companies that develop lines make a selection of superior animals of different races, and they cross them to fix some characteristics that are transmitted to the offspring. This is not achieved as easy as to know which the origin races are and to cross them, and you already have that same product. These lines are the result of many years of investigation and selection of animals that maximize the heterosis or hybrid vigor when crossing them. The companies develop maternal lines that transmit characteristic of production and quality and good weight of the pigs when being born and to the weaning. On the other hand, they also develop padrotes lines that impart quality in the physiologic characteristics and the efficiency of the growth and development of the pig. You should understand and to know how these characteristics and the levels of heredabilidad of each are inherited one of them. Some of these are the núm. of alive born pigs, núm. of weaned pigs, I Weigh when being born, and other more... Depending the crossing type that you make, you will obtain a heterosis percent or hybrid vigor. Although I don't have the time and space to explain to you this in detail, if I can tell you in summary that each crossing system has its advantages and disadvantages. And you should look for that system that is adjusted better to your necessity of producing a pig of quality, as the consumer he/she requests it, and in the possible more economic way. I recommend you that you get books on pig crossing and study the different types of crossings with pure races, I use of the terminal padrote and the crossings of lines, and choose that that is more convenient for tí and you follow it. Guide you with a specialist in genetics so that you know the advantages and disadvantages. The companies of lines guarantee a 100 of hybrid vigor, and you can obtain better genetic advances and channel quality in short term, but that has a price. If your market pays that advantage well, it is worthwhile to have that pig quality. It is a lot that one can speak with regard to this topic... I hope this explanation can be of help for tí...
