We fed our indoor cattle on a rolled barley with a low level vitamin/mineral supplement diet mixed in with chopped barley straw at around 12-15 cm lengths and hay ad lib. The concentate imput being built up over the course of a week to allow rumen adjustment. We never experienced any incidence of bloat. I realise that under large feedlot conditions this may have to be managed differently but the basic dietary premise should hold up.
