Agrosept Agrosept™
Disinfection - with long lasting effect
Aerial and room disinfection
What is Aerial disinfection?
Aerial disinfection is an important part of the Biosecurity Program on any pig or poultry farm.
It is a major part in the prevention and controlling diseases.
It is essential that the particles be suspended in the air for a period of time.
When is aerial disinfection with Agrosept appropriate?
1. Between batches in empty houses:
A terminal disinfection program is normally done between batches or when depopulating all, or part of a farm. This is usually done after the main cleaning and disinfection is completed, and after moveable items and bedding have been returned into the room:
• To control any contamination that might have been re-introduced with these articles.
• To disinfect areas which are inaccessible to normal procedures, either by virtue of their position or proximity to electrical supply or similar.
• To help reduce any dust etc. that carry infective microbes.
It should be stressed that this is part of a complete program and does not replace the normal disinfection in the program.
2. While the building are still populated with animals.
• To reduce the airborne spread of pathogens and other microorganisms.
• To reduce levels of dust etc which carry infective microbes.
• To reduce the levels of airborne challenge to the animals by endotoxins (toxins produced by certain bacteria they can be carried on dust – and have dramatic effects on productivity and disease).
Aerial disinfection with Agrosept can be carried out regularly, and can be highly effective.
The importance of aerial disinfection while animals are in the building is very important as dust and endotoxins contribute to the development of different respiratory disease in pigs and poultry.
When we reduce pathogens, dust and endotoxins in the air by aerial disinfection we can help control pneumonia - especially in herds where problems are present.
Agrosept aerial disinfection - how?
There are 3 ways of suspending disinfectant particles in the air with Agrosept:
1. Spraying - using a knapsack sprayer or pressure washer.
- This produces relatively large particles, which have more a wetting capacity, and stay in the air for relatively less time.
2. Misting - (cold fogging.) using a mechanical mister.
- This produces very small particles that have increased penetration and uniformity and it is excellent for the application of Agrosept.
3. Thermal fogging - similar to misting but involving heating of the disinfectant to produce a fine vapor.
- The small particle gives the best penetration and suspension, and it is excellent for the application of Agrosept.
Which is the best method using Agrosept?
• Spraying - is ideal for small rooms or buildings, especially where dust is more of a problem.
- It can be done in the presence of animals.
• Misting - is better for larger buildings and tall buildings. The low particle size means the disinfectant is suspended for a longer period. Again it is safe for use while pigs are in the building.
• Thermal fogging - is ideal for very large houses or moving around larger operations. The level of disinfection spread is good. This method is commonly used in poultry industry.
For all method used in terms of efficacy, safety and ease of use the disinfectant product of choice is Agrosept.
Agrosept - Misting or Thermal Fog Application System
The use of Misting or Thermal fogging is accepted practice for the final stage of full disinfection programs.
This method of disinfectant application can be rapid and does not involve large volumes of liquids in buildings where equipment and litter is already installed.
There is insufficient penetration of organic matter and porous surfaces for this application to be effective for primary disinfection.
- It is a follow up to clean out, wash down and spray disinfection.
Agrosept is a safe and long lasting disinfectant
Agrosept thermal fog system is a supreme broad spectrum disinfectant.
It is used as an aqueous solution through commonly available thermal foggers creating a dense fog, which gives a level of disinfection suitable for the final stage in a full biosecurity program.
1. Safety
Agrosept is absolutely safe to man animal and is not corrosive to any equipment.
Because it is so safe, operators and animals can stay in the building during fogging.
Recommendations for Misting or Thermal fogging with Agrosept
1. Machine Setup.
Set up thermal fogging machine with a valve suitable for aqueous solutions.
2. Making up Solution.
Use a 0,5 – 1 solution of Agrosept for the application
Use 6 liters of the suspension pr 100 m square of room
Use about 8 liter solution pr 1000 m2 room (about 3500 m3)
Droplet size: 17 – 25 Micron
About 400 lets / m2
Specific applications for the use of Agrosept over and around animals using
Misting or Thermal fogging with Agrosept:
Prevention of Respiratory and skin Diseases – with AGROSEPT
• Biting wounds (tail biting, Flank Chewing and ear biting) (Staphylococcus hyrius) in pigs:
With Agrosept you can prevent infections in biting wounds (ear, tail and skin) in pigs:
Wash thoroughly (to run off) the pigs in a 1 Agrosept solution at weaning before entering the pigs into the disinfected and clean fattening section. A Sprayer (knapsack sprayer, the sprinkler system or with a simple hose and pump system) can be used for this application in smaller scale.
On a bigger scale use Misting or Thermal fogging system.
Follow up with regular applications with a 0.5 Agrosept solution on exposed places (ears, tail and chin) on the pigs in the stable 2-3 times a week until the danger of biting and infection is passed (3-4 weeks).
This can be done with a Misting machine.
• AP2 Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia
With Misting or Thermal fogging system Agrosept is being used successfully against respiratory diseases in pigs.
Use a 0,5 solution of the concentrate and apply the solution into the room with animals.
Use lets in size less than 3 micron.
Turn off the ventilation and let the room be filled with the fog, which will be inhaled by the animals.
• Eggs for reproduction:
Eggs are treated with a 0,5-1 Agrosept solution using a fogging machine. Make sure that the eggs are treated with plenty of the solution ( to runoff).
Agrosept is totally un-harmful to man and animal.
• Day-old chickens:
Treat with a 0,5-1 Agrosept solution in a fogging sprayer over and around the chicks. Agrosept will prevent possible E.coli. and other microbial diseases in and around the chickens.
How to apply mist or fog with Agrosept?
1. The machine
Adjust the machine to use within a water-soluble product.
2. Agrosept mixing and dosing.
Use 0,5 – 1 Agrosept for application
Use about 8 liter solution pr 1000 m2(ca.3500 m3)
Droplet size: ca. 17 –25 Micron
About 400 lets pr. m2
General disinfection of stables and stable systems/equipment brooding houses and systems:
The stable or fattening section or the brooding houses are cleaned traditionally and, then as the last treatment, disinfected with a fogging or the sprinkler system with a 0,5 -1 Agrosept solution.
The Agrosept will form a disinfecting ”layer” all over the stable, equipments etc and hence a unique long lasting effect is achieved.ENGOREPROD 587-1229 20080520
