The 7^th annual World Poultry conference comes in a year characterised by high feed costs and sporadic avian flu outbreaks, but there are clear signs of optimism as global poultrymeat demand is on the rise.

Recent figures reveal that Brazil will be stepping up production by 10% in 2008, with the increased output heading to domestic and foreign markets. The US will also see a rise in production and will be competing with Brazil for market share in China and Russia.

China raised poultrymeat imports by a significant 35% in 2007. Meanwhile, the EU is expected to see a rise in lower-cost Brazilian poultrymeat imports, causing concern for EU producers already battling with high feed costs.
